Where We Come From

In 1940s Winnipeg, a small wood and coal business laid the foundation for decades of growth, innovation, and community building. By the 1970s, bold acquisitions established a vast land base, and our work began shaping landmark communities that would become part of Canada’s urban fabric. Through changing markets and evolving industries, Genstar learned to adapt and lead strategically while expanding into the United States and establishing independence.

“Genstar’s story has always been about transformation, innovation, and community. As we celebrate this milestone, I’m proud to say that legacy is alive and stronger than ever.”

— Paul Boskovich, President

Where We Are Today

Seventy-five years later, Genstar stands as a trusted North American developer with a diversified and forward-focused portfolio. While land development remains the heart of our business, we’ve recently expanded into purpose-built rentals. This evolution diversifies our portfolio as well as the communities we develop, addressing the growing need for attainable, long-term housing options that offer lasting value and belonging.

“We’ve always seen our work as more than just development. It’s about creating places where people live their lives.”

— Frank Thomas, CEO

Where We’re Going

As we step into the next chapter, we will continue to lead in community development while expanding our purpose built rental portfolio across Canada and the United States. Grounded in our history but inspired by the future, we remain committed to integrity and innovation, creating communities that endure and enrich the lives of those who call them home.

“Our vision remains clear: to be the very best we can be—to build communities that are envied, while forever chasing new challenges.”

— Frank Thomas, CEO
